As part of the living will

You probably know yourself where the limits of medical treatment lie for you. But do the doctors treating you also know this if you as a patient are no longer able to document your wishes independently? How far should and may hospitals and doctors go in their treatment? Where is the boundary between human dignity and medical technology?

A living will is a document that states which medical measures (e.g. blood transfusions, life-prolonging measures, etc.) may be taken in the event of serious accidents or illness. This document certifies the patient’s wishes if he or she is no longer able to express an opinion. At your request, we can arrange for your living will to be entered in the register of living wills. This register is maintained by the Austrian Chamber of Notaries in cooperation with the Austrian Red Cross.

A 24-hour telephone hotline of the Austrian Red Cross makes the living will register of Austrian notaries available to hospitals and doctors around the clock. In an emergency, it is therefore possible to find out immediately whether you have a living will.
